Great Potential and Opportunities at Halal Indo 2025, Minister of Industry Optimistic Indonesia Will Become the World’s Halal Industry Hub

Jakarta, 25 September 2025 – Indonesia has huge prospects to become one of the world’s halal sector hubs. The immense potential of both global and domestic markets serves as a solid platform for positioning the halal business as a national economic driver and a new global force.

“The global halal market continues to show significant growth.  In 2023, Muslim consumption in six Islamic economic sectors totaled USD 2.43 trillion. This value is expected to climb to USD 3.36 trillion by 2028,” said Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the opening of Halal Indo 2025 at ICE BSD, Tangerang.

The Minister also highlighted that the domestic market offers great promise. Indonesia’s household consumption reached IDR 3,226.1 trillion in the second half of 2025, driven by the world’s largest Muslim population of 245.97 million people. “This is our main capital. Indonesia should not only be a market but must also become a producer and key player in the global halal industry,” he emphasized.

In recent years, Indonesia’s halal business has shown promising results. Indonesia currently has 140,944 halal industrial businesses, dominated by the halal food sector with 130,111 industries, followed by halal beverages with 10,383 industries, and pharmaceuticals and medicine with 1,633 industries.

“The number of halal-certified products has reached 584,522 with a total of 162,111 halal certificates. This reflects the growing awareness among industries and the public about the importance of halal certification,” Agus added.

Moreover, investment in halal-related sectors, such as Islamic finance, totaled USD 5.8 billion from 2023 to 2024. Indonesia received the most of this sum, totaling USD 1.6 billion.

Indonesia’s halal product exports to Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries in 2023 totaled USD 12.33 billion, ranking it ninth among OIC exporters. Indonesia’s imports from OIC countries during the same time totaled USD 29.64 billion.

“This situation sends us a strong message that we still have a lot of work to do, particularly in terms of increasing domestic production capacity to reduce import dependency. However, this is the momentum we need to build for Indonesia to become a worldwide halal sector hub,” Agus stated.

IHYA and Halal Indo

Through the Halal Industry Center, the Ministry of Industry remains committed to advancing programs that support the development of the national halal industry. These include drafting technical policies for halal products, building and strengthening halal industry infrastructure, developing halal industry human resources, facilitating halal certification, boosting promotion and cooperation, and supervising and regulating halal industry operations.

The Indonesia Halal Industry Awards (IHYA) will have 1,031 participants in 2025, up from 984 in 2024. Following the judging process through to the final stage, 16 winners of IHYA 2025 were selected. This reflects the growing enthusiasm and commitment of industry players towards IHYA.

“With the successful implementation of IHYA 2025, I extend my highest appreciation to the Jury Team, Steering Committee, and Organizing Committee for their active participation and cooperation throughout the entire process,” said Agus.

In addition to IHYA, the Ministry of Industry has worked with PT Dyandra Promosindo to conduct the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) since 2024 in order to improve halal awareness and expand market access for halal products. This year, Halal Indo 2025 drew almost 300 people from diverse industries. The four-day event features a series of programs designed to strengthen the foundations of Indonesia’s halal ecosystem, including Halal Connect, Business Matching, Fashion Show by #MARKAMARIE, and a wide range of Industrial Festival 2025 activities with credible speakers from the industry.

This year’s Halal Indo successfully attracted international interest, both from exhibitors and prospective buyers, with participants from more than 10 countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, China, Ghana, the Philippines, Libya, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States.

“We believe that Halal Indo 2025 is not merely an exhibition, but also a momentum to strengthen cross-sector collaboration, open new opportunities, and provide inspiration for the future of Indonesia’s halal industry,” said Daswar Marpaung, the President Director of Dyandra Promosindo.During the opening ceremony of Halal Indo 2025, the Minister of Industry witnessed two cooperation signings. The first was a Cooperation Agreement on the Development of Indonesia’s Halal Value Chain Ecosystem. The second was a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development of Halal Industrial Zones to strengthen the halal industry ecosystem between the Directorate General of Industrial Resilience, Regionalization, and International Access (KPAII) and the Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Estates Association (HKI)
